She knew today was the day her dream would come to fruition. She knew she’d finally order that most eagerly anticipated piece of furniture. As she headed towards the display of sleigh beds, she somehow knew hers was among them. Yes, she was going to put a cherry wood finish bed in a room with all oak finished furniture. It would make a nice diversion rather than blend in with the oak furniture already in place.
She came upon a grouping of twin beds. There was modern, French provincial and contemporary. Possibly suitable for a child’s bedroom. One had a pink headboard and a pale neon green foot board. It did catch the eye but she wouldn’t want such a gaudy bed in her home.
The second group looked like either full-size or twin. She asked the sales person and she said the queen-sized ones were readily available as were the king-size beds. The full-size beds were not readily available in every bed on display. It depended on the style she chose. She continued to browse.
A few years ago she had seen a movie in which the couple had a gorgeous, huge and fancy bed that was placed, oddly, in the middle of their bedroom. The wife was a ballet dancer and she would dance around the bed each morning and each night. It was a ritual that had special meaning in the movie plot. She wanted one like it ever since.
Now they moved on to the king-sized beds. The saleslady talked about how gorgeous sheets were available in king-sizes. She pointed out all the advantages. No need, the customer was already sold on that size. She hadn’t been interested in a twin sleigh bed and she passed up the full and queen-sized ones, she wanted one of these overly large ones.
She got very excited when she spotted the one she wanted. It was massive, with the curved headboard and foot board and wooden sides that was what made it the style called sleigh. The carvings were swept up in the middle portion of the head and foot boards. It was a shiny cherry wood finish.
She could picture she and her husband, lying in it and reading the Sunday morning news on their laptop computer screens. She smiled broadly as the saleslady wrote up the order. She couldn’t wait for the delivery day, which was set up for next Thursday. She had found the sleigh bed of her dreams.
